Foothills Quilters support various organizations in our community by donating quilts that they have made.
Each year many quilts are given by our members to those in need of a “quilt hug”.   Whether it is a tote bag for women who come to a shelter or a colorful blanket for a child or a quilt for those who have served our country so bravely, our guild is always ready to lend a helping hand.

***In addition to the many contributions by our members at each guild meeting, our quilters meet  (please inquire for date/time and location) for work sessions to sew quilts and tote bags to donate to those in need.***

For the past several years, our philanthropy efforts have been directed at organizations that serve children in need.
The three agencies that we work directly with are:
               Shepherd’s Gate
               Serenity Place
               Safe Harbor
Members typically meet once a month to make quilts to be donated to these organizations, in addition to those quilts members make at home and bring to meetings for donation. In the past year, we donated over 100 quilts to these organizations, plus tote bags and other items of need. Our members continue to see this as one of our primary objectives as part of the Greenville community.
In addition, members make quilts individually to benefit community members through local Quilts of Valor efforts and Project Linus, which is a nationwide program providing quilts to children being treated for cancer. Locally, these quilts are donated to children being served through Prisma Health. More information on both of these efforts follows.

Quilts of Valor
Members of Foothills Piecemakers Quilt Guild have been making quilt blocks for the National and South Carolina block drive in honor of the 10thAnniversary of Quilts of Valor Foundation. They pick up kits with patterns and return them with extra blocks made from their own fabric too.  People interested in helping to make quilt tops for QOV are attending Saturday Sewing days at Marietta’s Quilt and Sew once a month. Fabric is provided and different block patterns are taught each month.  Anyone interested can attend for free.
FPQG proudly supports Quilts of Valor.  Nationwide, more than 166,000 quilts have been awarded under the guidance of Quilts of Valor Foundation.  Contact Ken Hinkle, the South Carolina Upstate Coordinator at for ways to support this worthwhile organization.
Project Linus- Partnering with Guilds throughout the Upstate
The Foundation – (Clement’s Kindness) was created by parents in Greenville who had lost a child to cancer. They send gift bags to each new cancer patient in the children’s ward at Prisma Health (formerly GHS) and asked if Project Linus could help with quilts. I have let them know that every other month we could provide 6 – 10 quilts.
We will look for quilts for infants/ toddler that are:
40 x 40 (infants)
48 x 48 (toddlers and pre-school)
48 – 60 (ages 6 -12)
60 x 72 (teens)
Completed quilts may be provided to Cecelia Lewis for passing on to Project Linus. (Cecelia Lewis, 128 Bean Mill Way, Anderson, SC 29625; 864-224-6440;

Finally, each year we adopt a family in need to provide them with a happier Christmas holiday than they could otherwise manage. Guild members donate cash throughout the year toward this. We typically can spend
approximately $500.00 for gifts for the chosen family. Guild members volunteer to complete this shopping and wrap the gifts. In addition, the family receives at least one handmade quilt as part of their Christmas celebration.
Our community philanthropy efforts are an important part of the guild’s mission.
