Our Philanthropy is working with Lily Pad, a local nonprofit that works with children in the foster care system as they transition to a family. We are making pillowcases in fun, kid-friendly prints for these children to keep and call their own. Pillowcase kits are available at guild meetings, or you may make pillowcases using fabric from your own stash. Please, no glitter fabrics.

Pillowcase Challenge

September 2026 – June 2027

We’re adding a little friendly competition to the project!

A prize will be given to the member who signs out and returns the most completed pillowcase kits.

Another prize will be given to the member who makes and turns in the most pillowcases using their own fabric.

How You Can Participate

— Pick up and sign out pillowcase kits at the Philanthropy table.

— Turn in completed pillowcases at the Philanthropy table. Remember to sign them

in so they count toward the challenge!

— Make pillowcases from your own fabric stash.

— Make pillowcase kits from your stash for other members to sew.

— Donate pillowcase “parts” from your stash. If you have fabrics in the following sizes that don’t necessarily coordinate with each other, we can use them to create future kits:

 

Body: 27” or 28” x width of fabric, cut square at each end
Cuff: 8”, 9” or 10” x width of fabric, cut square at each end
Accent: 2” x width of fabric, or full-length orphan jelly roll strips

 

If you donate pillowcase parts, please label them as “pillowcase parts.” This allows us to place them directly into the appropriate bin for packaging into kits later.

 

Need Instructions?

There are numerous instructional videos online for making Burrito Pillowcases. Cutting lengths may vary slightly from one video to another, and that’s perfectly fine. Choose a method that works for you. The finished pillowcase simply needs to fit a standard-size pillow.
